Introduction
Gamers who are eagerly awaiting the release of Midway’s hotly anticipated ‘Fear & Respect’, starring Snoop Dogg, will be happy to know that 50 Cent will star in his very own game, titled 50 Cent: Bulletproof. Bulletproof looks like a hardcore action game inspired by 50 Cent’s music and games like San Andreas, but it is much more then that. Bulletproof will apparently graphically display 50 getting shot 9 times and will follow him into a world of hatred and conspiracy as he strives to get bloody revenge on all his enemies.
Bulletproof is set in the dark streets of New York and revolves around the various crime syndicates that operate within the city. It is set to combine both shooting and fighting elements, as well as using 50 Cent’s music as a soundtrack to complement the action. The given title of ‘New Millennium Gangsta’ makes 50 out to be some kind of superhero, which is exactly the angle the developers are going for. Although 50 might not seem like the best pick for someone to save the world, there is no denying that his hard-hitting attitude, street cred and Teflon vest sure make for a great video game character.
Preview
Bulletproof is set to take you on a graphical journey with its complex Matrix inspired moves and ultra realistic character models. After viewing screen captures of the game, I mistook them for actual photographs of the famous rapper himself. It seems Vivendi Universal have spared no expense in creating flawless visuals.
The game will surely have a high rating as the violence is pretty gruesome. 50’s character seems to fight as if he were a competitor in ‘Def Jam: Fight For New York’. In one scene, 50 steals a rifle and flicks it round, he then uses the butt of the gun to forcefully knock an opponent’s head clean off into a pile of mush. You can expect a lot of blood and language, making this a bad choice for younger gamers, so keep that in mind when planning the Christmas list later this year!
Bulletproof can luckily boast that it has excellent voices for the characters, as 50 himself has already signed on with the developers hinting that other rap stars might also make cameos.
Curtis Jackson (50) has been noted saying that Bulletproof is simply a wild fantasy version of his real life; if this is the case then we can expect some pretty crazy twists and turns along the way as 50 Cent’s life has been anything but boring! The adaptation from 50 Cent’s life to the video game world will be even more amazing thanks to Terry Winter who has written the storylines for Bulletproof. Terry is the one responsible for 50 Cent’s upcoming bio-film ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin’ so you can expect some ties between the game and movie.
Vivendi Universal hasn’t been very forthcoming with news related to Bulletproof, but they have guaranteed that it will certainly be a serious action title. Some of the moves seen in the trailer hint at the game being likened to Metal Gear Solid, with regards to 50 being able to use people as human shields for example and the whole tactical side of it.
With the success of San Andreas and the current releases of popular action games such as Metal Gear Solid 3 and Syphon Filter 4, it can be said that there is certainly a market out there for a game such as Bulletproof. Vivendi Universal and 50 Cent are hoping that the game will reach out to a new market of gamers, specifically those who are solely interested in 50 Cent’s music.
Anticipation
Bulletproof holds many points of interest for me as I am fan not only of action games, but also of 50 Cent as an artist. The inclusion of his music and style into an action game is something that I simply cannot wait to pick up and play. The edge of San Andreas will be wearing off by the time Bulletproof hits the streets, so hopefully it can pick up the pieces.
It seems that 50 Cent isn’t satisfied with conquering the music industry and clothing industry, but feels the need to branch out with his own movie and video game. A lot of gamers may think Bulletproof is a cheesy way for 50 to make money, but I actually expect a quality action game, especially since Vivendi Universal, the makers of ‘Half-life’ and ‘The Chronicles of Riddick’, have agreed to make it.
